Job Description - Intermediate Construction Modeler
JOB SUMMARY
The Intermediate Construction Modeler is responsible for creating and modifying detailed technical drawings and plans for various construction, engineering, and manufacturing projects. This role requires an intermediate level of expertise in draughting techniques, software, and industry standards. The Intermediate Construction Modeller will work more independently, assisting in design coordination, managing project deliverables, and liaising with clients and engineers to ensure drawings meet the required specifications and are completed on time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include, but not limited to:
- Technical Draughting & Design:
- Develop and produce detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings based on design concepts and project specifications using draughting software such as Tekla, AutoCAD or similar.
- Revise and update existing designs, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project changes and specifications.
- Provide input into the design process by suggesting improvements or solutions to technical issues.
- Project Coordination & Management:
- Take ownership of multiple small-to-medium-sized draughting projects, ensuring drawings are completed on time and meet quality standards.
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, and senior construction modelers to ensure smooth collaboration and accurate execution of designs.
- Assist in planning draughting schedules and resource allocation for assigned projects.
- Software Proficiency & Maintenance:
- Utilize advanced features of draughting software (Tekla, AutoCAD etc.) to improve design efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay up-to-date with new developments in draughting tools and software to maintain high-quality outputs.
- Client & Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with clients, project managers, and engineering teams to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Address client feedback on designs and incorporate requested changes.
- Conduct regular progress reviews with project stakeholders to ensure designs meet client expectations.
- Standards & Compliance:
- Ensure that all drawings adhere to company standards, industry codes, and project-specific requirements.
- Maintain compliance with local and international engineering and architectural regulations.
- Review work produced by junior and intermediate construction modelers and provide guidance on improving compliance with standards and quality control measures.
- Quality Assurance & Problem-Solving:
- Conduct self-reviews of drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before submission to senior engineers or clients.
- Identify and troubleshoot any design-related issues that arise during the draughting process.
- Implement best practices in draughting to improve quality and efficiency.
- Documentation & Record Keeping:
- Organize and maintain a record of all technical drawings, revisions, and project documentation.
- Ensure that drawings are stored and archived correctly for future reference.
- Mentorship & Training:
- Assist in the training and development of junior and intermediate construction modelers, providing feedback on their work and helping them improve their draughting skills.
- Share industry knowledge and best practices with the team to foster a collaborative learning environment.
- Site Visits (Occasional):
- Visit project sites to gather information, take measurements, or verify designs as needed.
- Communicate on-site findings to the design and engineering teams to ensure accurate drawing development.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Degree, Diploma, certificate or any other applicable qualification in Draughting, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in Tekla, AutoCAD or other draughting software.
- Strong understanding of engineering and architectural drawings and their specifications.
- Ability to independently manage and execute multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
- Experience with handling of 3D scans and scanning equipment, as well as the ability to interface scanning data within CAD software would be advantageous.
- Good knowledge and experience with one or more of the following:
- Structural engineering
- Mechanical (Piping) engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Process engineering
EXPERIENCE:
2-5 years of experience in a draughting or design role, with a proven ability to deliver complex projects.
